What is a Course Rep?
Course Reps are elected student representatives who provide an essential link between those of you studying on a course and the staff delivering it. It is imperative that every year, of every course has a Course Rep, to ensure vital feedback, direct from your cohort, is listened to and where necessary acted upon. Our team of Reps are here to ensure we all provide you with the best experience possible and to give a channel to the student voice at all levels of study, whether you’re a first year Undergraduate or a final year PhD student.
What is the Role of a Course Rep?
Course Reps are an important part of the Voice Zone and becoming a Course Rep is a fantastic experience for anyone who would like to learn leadership and communication skills, or is interested in bringing their peers together to make a positive change to their studies.
As a Course Rep your role is to:
Gather student feedback - Course Reps will need to speak to their fellow students to find out what they think about the course - whether this be good or bad.
Voice this feedback - Course Reps will then attend meetings with University staff, such as SSLC (Staff-Student Liaison Committee), SEF (Student Engagement Forums - PGRs) and BoS (Board of Studies), to relay the information they have gathered and work with the University to come up with solutions to any problems that have arisen.
Share the outcome - Course Reps will then communicate with their peers what is happening as a result of their feedback and any changes that are going to be made.
It is vital that Course Reps also keep the Students' Union up to date with what is going on in their cohort:
If you are a current Rep there is a dedicated page to do this on our website - scroll down to 'Rep Feedback' to let us know what is going on in your cohort.
Key contact details for the Students' Union can be found under 'Rep Resources'.
Will I be trained in the role?
Training for Course Reps is provided by the Students’ Union and we are here to support Course Reps throughout the year. Reps will receive training in how to effectively represent their peers and how the University's feedback structure works .
Course Reps are also required to attend Rep Assemblies which are
organised by the Students’ Union. This is an opportunity for students
from all years to take their issues directly to the Senior Management of
