When and where?
6-8pm, every Monday in the GSA building (next to the main entrance to campus). You won't be able to miss us, we'll have all our banners out, our committee members will be wearing their GC t-shirts and there will probably be loads of other people heading in the same direction!
Who can come?
Absolutely anyone! Whether you think you're musical or not, we'd love for you to come and try out one of our taster sessions. We don't audition like some arts societies, just turn up and give it a go.
What exactly do you do?
On a Monday evening we hold our main rehearsals. This is probably the central point where we come together as a society and learn and rehearse for our upcoming performances. We try and make our rehearsals as relaxed and engaging as possible whilst providing a fun way to meet and socialise with other society members. The events that we perform at vary from month to month and members can choose whether they want to get involved. It's hard to define what sort of performances we'll be involved with this year, but in the past we have performed at the Cathedral for Christmas services, we've performed at weddings and charity events, and we also hold our own massive showcases in the Spring.
How do I join?
We are holding taster sessions on Monday 1st and Monday 8th October in the GSA building, 6-8pm. We'll tell you more about joining at these events but if you want to join right here, right now, then go to the top of this page and look for "JOIN THIS SOCIETY HERE..." on the left. Membership is £10 for the whole year. This means that you're able to join in with any performances, workshops or socials that we run after our welcome events and you'll also receive a little welcome pack at our next rehearsal which includes some exclusive GC goodies. All of our welcome events are free though, so just turn up and you can find out more.
If I join, do I have to commit?
There's no requirement for you to commit to any performances or events, so if you feel like it's something you want to try out then you can choose exactly how much you want to commit. Even if you can't come to our rehearsals every week then that's fine too! Remember, you don't need to be a member to come to our Monday rehearsals, but you'll need to join if you want to take part in any of our other events.
But I don't want to come on my own...
Firstly, there are probably loads more people thinking the same thing, and secondly, once you get to our taster session (give it five minutes...) you'll forget you didnt know anyone anyway. We really want to make this society a place where people feel welcome. (It's one of our main focuses this Autumn) So we've put together a couple of videos, and a series of welcome activities to get people like you involved. Just do it. You'll thank yourself later.
