Students' Union Elections
The Voice Zone is responsible for keeping democracy at the heart of the Union. Every year, we run three types of election.
Course Rep Elections
Course Rep elections take place in May (for returning students) and in October (for new students). Rep elections take place either in a lecture, or online, and are coordinated by each department. The University then informs the Students' Union of elected reps' details and new reps are contacted regarding training and responsibilities throughout the year. Becoming a Course Rep is a great opportunity to enhance your University experience and those of your peers, by making improvements to the academic experience. For more information about becoming a Course Rep, visit the Course Rep area of the website.
'Surrey Decides' is the Students' Union's officer election process, which takes place in the second semester every year. Through this process, officers are elected for the Union's full time (paid) roles, and part time (zone) roles for the following academic year. Over 4,000 students voted in last year's election, giving the Union one of the strongest election turnouts across all Unions in the UK. Visit the
Surrey Decides website for more information on the election process.
AGMs and EGMs
The AGM (Annual General Meeting) process takes place in May each year. Through AGMs, sports clubs and societies elect their new committees for the following academic year, and the current committee reports back on how the year has gone. From time to time, we also run EGMs (Extraordinary General Meetings) to fill unexpected vacancies on club or society committees.
