NUS Conference Delegation
Each Students' Union that is affiliated to the National Union of Students is entitled to send a delegation of elected students to the National Conference each year.
Surrey is entitled to send a delegation of 4 elected students to NUS Conference. The NUS Conference delegation are responsible for voting on the policies presented to NUS Conference, and on the students who are standing to become NUS officers, on behalf of the interests of all Surrey students. The delegation's entitlement and responsibility to vote on behalf of all students comes from their cross-campus election, which happens at the same time as Surrey Decides, the Union's election process for the full time officer team and zone members.
Election candidates in Surrey Decides can run for a sabbatical or zone position alongside running for NUS delegate, and may merge the role of NUS delegate into their main manifesto.
Last year's NUS delegation were Munya Mudarikiri (VP Voice 2015-16), Mustie Smith (Union President 2015-16), Alex Mackenzie Smith (VP Activity 2015-16 and President elect 2016-17), and Becky Ibbotson (Union Chair 2015-16 and VP Activity elect 2016-17).
The NUS has published some useful information on becoming a delegate at NUS National Conference, which will again this year be held in Brighton:
