Diana Ogonyo

Diana Ogonyo Website v2 2019.pngHi, My name is Diana Ogonyo and I'm currently a third year student studying Biological sciences. I have been a course rep for the past two years and in that that I have become extremely familiar, not only with the voice zone, but the student union as a whole. The Sabbs, Part-Time Officers and staff all work extremely hard to ensure that each and every student at the University of Surrey receive the support they need to have the best university experience. For the upcoming year, I'm truly excited to work, not only with my fellow voice zone committee members, but also with all the zones within the union.

During my time in the voice zone, I hope to raise student concerns regarding WiFi access across campus and also the unreliable bus service from Hazel farm to campus.

Please do feel free to come talk to me or email me. I'm more than happy to talk!

My Manifesto

Hazel Farm: We need to talk about the buses

The lack of a reliable and punctual bus service has been a chronic issue affecting Hazel Farm residents for years. It’s not unusual to wait 30 minutes for a bus to campus in the morning and the evening service from campus is even more chaotic.

Honest, but tough conversations need to be had with the service providers, to initiate changes for the benefit of the students. I am fully willing and able to take part in such discussions.

Accountability of University management

Surrey very sharply fallen in both the University and NSS rankings.  This year we were 68th in the NSS and 21st in the Guardian league table, in 2016 were 20th and 4th respectively.

Such a substantial decline is a clear indicator of a reduction in student satisfaction throughout the university. Yet, the response from the university management, I believe, has been very weak. More needs to be done to acknowledge this and set up a clear and well defined plan.

Wifi availability across campus

The poor availability of WIFI across the entire university campus is simply unacceptable; with many lecturers now integrating digital tools into their teaching it is vital that we have consistent and adequate access to WIFI at all time whilst on campus.

My aim is to engage with the relevant people, with the help of the student union, in order to improve the WIFI access on campus.
