Hello! My name is Diana and I am a second year Veterinary Medicine and Sciences PhD student. I completed my undergraduate degree at Surrey and I'm also an international student. I'm an active member of Surrey's community and I'm on the committees of the Equestrian & Polo Club, Postgraduate Society and Arab Society. The main thing that drives me to be involved in the Union and student experience is the hope that every student at Surrey can love their time here as much as I have!
This year, I'd like to focus on various points throughout a person's year at University; from finding out about support services as soon as you see your welcome packs, to fighting the effects of social media on self-love, and to the experiences of minority groups on campus, there are so many times that we all need support.
Increase engagement and participation of students with physical disabilities or invisible illnesses by creating an activity pamphlet for welcome packs.
Provide a handbook in welcome packs for international students, detailing the various support systems available at the University and various Societies.
Let's Keep Surrey Talking
The Let's Talk campaigns have been incredibly successful at Surrey. Due to the current culture of social media, body shaming, and other phenomena, a Let's Talk: Self Love is much needed.
Minority Group Support
I will work towards creating an open environment to encourage minority interaction with the Union in order to support integration into University life. For example, look into the use of ECs for students observing Ramadan during exams, and empowerment schemes for women in STEM.
