BefrienderAge UKGuildford

Provide short or long term support to older people to make positive changes to their lives.  To assist them to attain individual goals to improve their health and wellbeing.

 

  • To support an older person on a weekly basis either in person or by phone  
  • Support and motivate older people to engage in activity outside the home as identified within their support plans. This may include building confidence to get on the bus, go to the cinema, go out for a coffee, go for a walk or join a local group. (this list is not exhaustive)   
  • Accompany the older person on these visits.
  • Signpost and research local events and activities that reflect the older person's stated interests and encouraging the person to undertake these interests.
  • Maintain close contact with the Wellbeing Team
  • Provide a brief record of visits.

    Personal Qualities:
  • Good communication skills
  • To be a facilitator not a fixer
  • Have empathy for the older people with long term conditions and / or dementia.   
  • The ability to value and respect others' opinions and beliefs
  • Ability to read and understand our guidelines and policies on Health and Safety, confidentiality
  • Flexible
  • Car owner/ driver – desirable but not essential depending on area that you live
  • Ability to motivate people

The role requires a DBS and references and 1 day training prior to supporting an individual.

Office Admin Volunteer​Age UK​Guildford, Ash and Cranleigh

Age UK are looking for people able to volunteer for a few hours per week to help our regional offices (Cranleigh and Ash) and also here in Guildford. Hours and days can be flexible – it's good opportunity to gain office /work experience/back to work etc.

For Guildford:

 

  • They would be checking database entries for Help at Home joiners and leavers, as well as issuing vouchers to our voucher clients and Home helps.
  • IT literate – comfortable using excel and outlook, and willing to train on CLOG
  • Communication with regional offices regarding queries.

For Ash and Cranleigh:

  • To help provide administration support to our Help at Home office based in Ash or Cranleigh. Main duties involve making monitoring calls to our existing clients, generally checking all is well and completing the customer survey.
  • Occasional additional office tasks like shredding, scanning, filing etc.

Full training will be provided and travel expenses paid for.
