Interested in joining the team? We're recruiting now for Listening Volunteers to join Surrey Nightline.
To be eligible to volunteer you must be 18 or over and a registered student at the University of Surrey.
We train new Listening volunteers every Autumn and Spring. We offer rigorous listening skills training to all volunteers to best prepare you for the role, plus continuous support from trained staff at the University's Centre for Wellbeing.
No experience is necessary - all we ask is that you are non-judgemental, empathetic and can adapt to the vast variety of calls we receive. It’s a great opportunity to get to know other people, learn listening skills and learn about mental health.
Training dates for 2017:
Session 1: Thursday 26th October 6-9pm
Session 2: Thursday 2nd November 6-9pm
Session 3: Thursday 9th November 6-9pm
Training Weekend: Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th November, 10am - 4pm.
Trainees attend three 3-hour sessions about listening skills, and then a full weekend of mental health and procedures training. After training, listening volunteers commit to about 2-3 sessions per term and one evening top-up training session each term to make sure that you are comfortable in your role.
Interested? Please download the volunteer pack HERE for more detailed information about becoming a Surrey Nightline Listening Volunteer.
