Volunteering with Nightline
We're no longer recruiting for the 2017/18 academic year, but we'll be recruiting for both listening volunteers and publicity ambassadors to join Surrey Nightline in September 2018.
To be eligible to volunteer you must be 18 or over and a registered student at the University of Surrey.
As a listening volunteer, you'll go through an extensive research-based training programme (minimum 17 hours total), developing skills you can use your whole life to support those around you.
Listening for Nightline can of course be challenging, but equally rewarding. The welfare of our listening volunteers is a core Nightline priority, so you will have many different avenues for support whenever you need it.
You will be trained in many skills and will get many chances to practise before taking a real call. You don't need any prior experience, just a willingness to learn and a respect for confidentiality. You must also be fluent in English.
Please remember that our listening volunteers are anonymous and therefore must not discuss their application process with anyone.
As a publicity ambassador you'll be part of a team responsible for raising awareness of the service. You'll have the opportunity to organise events, fundraise, design promotional material and publicise the service using creativity and passion.
It's a great opportunity to gain some experience in PR and Communications, whilst helping a really valuable service! All the while you are encouraged to have fun; we want the Nightline volunteer community to be all about friendship, support and enjoying what we do.
We'll be recruiting for both roles again in September 2018, but in the meantime please feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org to register your interest or ask any questions you may have.
