  • Digital Communications Assistant (one year placement role)

      This is a fantastic opportunity to work for a Times Top 100 Not for Profit Employer.    The Students’ Union has a vacancy for a one year placement (University of Surrey student) starting in August 2018 for a student to get involved with our on line communication system.   You will be working for an organisation where staff opinions are valued and listened to, plus receive excellent experience and training opportunities.    We constantly need to ensure we are communicating effectively with our 15,000+ strong membership and the most successful and popular methods are social media and the Union’s website.   We need our communication to be clear, articulate, creative and offering the best possible service to our members.


      The Digital Communications Assistant will be responsible for responding to online enquiries and coordinating the Union’s messages across multiple communication platforms.  It is important these are prioritized and kept up to date.      The post-holder will be responsible for coordinating, editing and planning the Union’s weekly newsletter, which is sent out to our audience of 15,000+ students as well as members of University and Union staff.   The role will also be responsible for helping to source content and provide editorial support.


      We need the following skills:


      Excellent communications skills - both written and verbal

      Team player

      Ability to organise workload and manage multiple social media accounts

      Experience of writing articles

      Proactive and flexible attitude to work

  • Finance Coordinator (maternity cover)

      The University of Surrey Students' Union is recruiting a full time Finance Coordinator (maternity cover) for up to 12 months.  The role will be responsible for supervising the day to day operation of our membership and commercial services finances, ensuring regulations and procedures are adhered to and operated efficiently.
      We are looking for a candidate who can:
      • Maintain accurate computer and manual records of all financial transactions
      • Be responsible for the cash up procedure of daily income
      • Ensure the daily running of the Union's operations have sufficient cash holdings
      • Manage sales and purchase ledgers
      • Create and post sales invoices and maintain a working system of credit control
      • To process all banking transactions and carry out regular reconciliations of bank statements and other control account reconciliations including credit cards and cash machines
      • To provide support to the Deputy CEO and attend regular meetings regarding finance
      • To manage a team of part time finance assistants
      • To fulfil any other finance or legal responsibility as applicable to the running of the organisation.

      Skills/experience required:

      • Proven skills within a financial/accounting background
      • Accuracy and good attention to detail
      • Flexible approach to work
      • Previous staff supervisory experience
      • Experience of annual audits
      • Knowledge of financial packages - Microsoft Navison would be preferred although training can be given
      • Excellent communication skills
      • The ability to deal face to face with a variety of people on a daily basis
      • Ability to remain calm under pressure
      • Experience of problem solving
