The Shack is the EARS electronics and amateur radio lab, located at 46AB05 (on the top floor of AB, just outside the lift door). It is availiable for full members to use 24/7 via rfid access, upon passing a basic health & safety protocol test which you can sign up to here.
For electronics users, there are two electronics benches furnished with equipment such as power supplies, multimeters, oscililloscopes, function generators, soldering irons, and even a spectrum analyser. A PC is provided for programming microcontrollers, and a range of tools for electronics construction and casework are on hand.
There is also a large supply of components availiable in the shack, which are will be catalouged online soon. Any extra components you need can be ordered through our Online Ordering System.
For amateur radio users there are 5 rigs of varying wavelengths availiable for use, subject to you holding the relevant licence (EARS provides training to obtain a licence, see our amateur radio page for details). A PC is also available for playing with digital modes or SDR.
