Waste Not Wednesday

Did you know that we throw away 7.2 million tonnes of food every year?
Of course, some is peelings, cores and bones, but most of it is, or once was, perfectly good food. Wasted food has a big impact on climate change. Most of it ends up in landfill sites where it rots and releases methane, a damaging greenhouse gas. The food we throw away is also a huge waste of the energy, water and packaging used in its production, transportation and storage.
Because of that, the third day of Go Green Week is named Waste Not Wednesday.
Using Faitrade products (a foundation which is about decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world) we are baking cakes and selling them for only £1 each piece. We will be in the Library, ground floor (outside amigo) from 9am to 1pm.
