Houses of Parliament Trip 18/4/16

Our visit to the Houses of Parliament earlier this year was the Society's highlight of the year! Kindly sponsored by Guildford MP Anne Milton, we kicked off with a guided tour of the Palace of Westminster, afterwards we split up and visited nearby landmarks such as Downing Street, the Supreme Court and of course a parliamentary pub or two. Finally we had a private reception with lots of Conservative MPs including: Education Secretary Nicky Morgan MP, Armed Forces Minister Penny Mordaunt MP and everyone's favourite eurosceptic Jacob Rees-Mogg MP.

An Afternoon with Daniel Hannan 12/3/16

Fresh off the EU campaign trail, we heard from our local MEP and leading Vote Leave campaigner Daniel Hannan. It was a great opportunity to quiz him on his work as our local MEP for the South East and debate his views on the upcoming EU referendum!

EU Referendum Debate 8/3/16

We pitted our very own Social Secretary Ricardo Mendes, chair of Surrey Students for Britain, against Surrey alumnus George Potter, chair of Surrey Students for Europe in the first EU debate of the year.

An Evening with Kwasi Kwarteng MP 3/3/16

Part-time historian and full-time MP for Spelthorne, Kwasi Kwarteng MP was our first guest speaker of the year. He gave us an insight into his role as an MP and his opinions on current international politics!

Annual Dinner with Micheal Gove 20/11/15

We teamed up with the Guildford Conservative Association and went along to their annual black tie dinner at the cathedral Refectory with special guest Justice Secretary Micheal Gove. Following a three course meal, we had short talk by Micheal about his views on current politics, after which we had the chance to quiz him on his work in the Justice department!
