Summer Diving 2015
Plymouth 19th-21st June
With AJ, Gareth, Dave, Lucas, Julia, Mike and Tom
For a weekend in June, seven of us took Garfield down to Plymouth to complete Lucas and Dave's Diver Cox training. We arrived on the Friday evening having driven past the campsite twice, eventually finding some fish and chips for Mike's birthday tea.
Saturday morning's launch went largely without incident. Unfortunately, not everything else did. We planned to dive the Scylla in the morning, but a couple of miles out to sea Garfield's steering cable broke! As we limped back to the marina we decided to make the most of a bad situation and dive the breakwater fort. Rare pink sea fans are the pick of this dive, with a lot of miscellaneous debris littering the seabed as the site was used for training commercial divers. Returning to the marina, Plymouth Sound Diving Club were kind enough to lend us their RIB for a more successful dive on the Scylla - actually making the dive this time, we took in the bow, bridge and the collapsed helicopter hanger.
On Sunday, we recovered Garfield and headed to Fort Bovisand where we completed a Sports Diver lesson for Tom and a Dive Leader lesson for Lucas before heading home. While the weekend didn't accomplish all we'd hoped, it proved we can adapt to the worst situations!
This is just one of our recent trips undertaken.
