University of Surrey Surfing and Wakeboarding Club
We are a new and exciting organization giving you the oppportunity to try out or further your skills in both surfing and wakeboarding! Whether your keen surfer, a pro wakeboarded, or you've never done it before, the Surf and Wakeboard Club is open to anybody who is up for a laugh!
Surfing:
The surfing half of our club runs several trips down to Newquay in Cornwall, supposedly the best place in England to surf (but we are open to any other suggestions on locations if you know any decent swells). Newquay is in the South West of England, and attracts thousands of surfers each year, boasting impressive conditions for both beginners and pro's.
We usually leave Friday afternoon in a minibus and coming back to the real world on Sunday evening. We tend to stay in a local surf lodge. The Club actually has a few boards and wetsuits of their own, but any other equipment is hired at a really decent price. You dont need any equipment of your own. Newquay not only has plenty of beaches to try out, but the shops and nightlife are also pretty attractive, with plenty of bars, restaurants and clubs to explore!
On average, a weekend trip to Newquay costs around £40, excluding food and drink depending on the amount of equipment we need to hire and the number of people. The more people, the cheaper the minibus travel is as well as accommodation!
This year we have been able to include surf lessons, for beginners or those who just want to improve their surfing so if you fancy a lesson just let us know before one of the trips and we can book it for you.
Wakeboarding:
Wakeboarding is a relatively new and up and coming sport, but its becoming increasingly popular!! We run as many trips as possible to a local Watersports Club in Ashford, called Princes, about a half an hour drive from the University. Once again, you don't need any experience or any equipment. Its all included in the cheap price of £12 for two hours wakeboarding (including equipment). This is a really decent price, as usually it would cost you around £40 for a couple of hours on the water.
We are keen to have as many trips as possible throughout the year, provided we have enough people to come. All you need is a swimming costume or board shorts, a towel and £12.
