About Us

The University of Surrey Sailing Club (USSC) is a very active club within the University. The club owns two Laser 2s, 2 RS500s and 2 RS Visions which are all kept at Datchet Water Sailing Club (a local reservoir). We go sailing every Wednesday afternoon, leaving the union at 13:00. After sailing, we can be found in Chancellors [Uni. bar]. In addition we often participate in club racing on a Sunday.

If you have never sailed before we will make sure you go out with someone experienced who will "show you the ropes". We generally try to use the Wednesday sessions

In recent years the club has begun to get involved in yachting. On average we do two or three weekends a year, sailing 37ft boats on the Solent. The yachting calendar culminates in the BUSA Yachting Nationals in April.

The Club's members have a wide variety of sailing experience, ranging from beginners to skilled sailors. Anyone is welcome to come along and have a go. Our main aims are to promote interest in sailing, and to have a good time.

The main sailing events, which we participate in every year, are:

· BUSA Fleet Racing Nationals (November in Weymouth)
· BUSA Inland Nationals (March)
· Laser II Open Meetings
· BUSA Yachting Nationals (April)

In addition to sailing events we attend/organise social events, the two major ones being:

· Christmas Dinner
· Colours Ball (Spring)

If you would like to try any of these activities, come along to the union reception on Wednesdays at 1 o'clock. Visit the joining section of this site for more information.
