Union President

The Union President is the most senior Student Representative at the University. This means acting as the voice for all students on campus by ensuring that representational structures are in place and being used. The President works with the team of full time Sabbaticals and part time Executive Officers to promote the views of students to the University, the local community, nationally and internationally. The role also means being the main point of communication between the Students’ Union and the University in order to make sure students’ views are taken into account in every decision that affects them. 
As well as overseeing all of the day to day activities of the Students’ Union, with specific responsibility for the Union’s media provisions and commercial services; the President is also responsible for developing and leading on future goals and strategy, alongside the Sabbatical team and full time staff.

Vice President Education

The Vice President Education is the leading representative on all academic matters affecting students. This means they oversee the student academic representative system, the Student Union’s academic support provision and promote the needs of students to all University committees which relate to studying at Surrey. As the representative of the academic experience at Surrey, this position also has a voice nationally and acts as the champion of educational campaigns and activism relating to University fees and other important matters. This position is also an important member of the executive team, tasked with feeding back all relevant information from the University and beyond.

Vice President Welfare

The Vice President for Welfare is charged with looking after the wellbeing needs of all students on campus and in the community. This means taking on individual student cases as well as liaising with student care services about provisions for students and the issues that might affect them. They also oversee the Students’ Union amenities – RAG, LGBT, PGA and St John’s Ambulance. This role also campaigns on national and international topics that students should be aware of, as well as being creative in delivering these campaigns across the campus. The VP Welfare is the main point of communication between the University, the students and the Union’s Executive team on all matters of support and wellbeing.

Vice President Societies and Individual Development

As the name suggests the VP Societies and Individual Development oversees the Guild of Societies, the ‘DAVE Project’ for the personal development and employability of students, as well as cultural events such as International Festival and projects to encourage the social integration of all students. ‘Do More’ (student volunteering) and ‘Give it a go’ (workshops and adventures) also come under this position. They ensure that all of these activities are student led and benefit students. This position is the main point of communication between the members of Union societies and the Union Executive; making sure that the voice of Guild members is heard at all levels in the Union and beyond.

Vice President Sport and Recreation

The Vice President for Sport and Recreation is responsible for representing the sporting needs of all Surrey Students to the University and nationally. Liaising with the University’s Sports Centre team about the development of sport at Surrey, this position is instrumental to the direction of sport on campus in light of the new sports development and 2012 games. This role also oversees the activities of all the Union’s Sports Clubs, making sure they are properly equipped, affectively run and sufficiently supported.
