LGBT History Month
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans History Month celebrates the lives and achievements of the LGBT community, its diversity and that of the society as a whole.
An LGBT History Month was first initiated in the USA in the month of October 1994 and LGBT History Month UK was initiated by Schools OUT in February 2005. Both were based on the creation of the highly successful Black History Month which first occurred in the UK in October 1987 (Black History Month USA takes place in February).
Here at Surrey, it was only in February 2008 we held our first set of LGBT History Month related events, which included a Gay Parenting Discussion, LGBT Jeans Day and a talk by Dr Peter Hegarty titled "Queer Genius?".
