 Surrey LGBT

Supporting, Representing and Uniting Surrey LGBT Students

Surrey LGBT exists to bring people together who identify themselves as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (or even if you're a bit unsure)!

The society aims to:

  • Support LGBT students at the University.
  • Promote and represent the views and interests of LGBT students.
  • Be fun and inclusive!

What we do:

  • Organise social events.
  • Organise debates and discussions on LGBT topics.
  • Provide a voice against homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, cisgenderism, heterosexism and other discrimination.

Who can join?

  • Any students – you don’t have to identify yourself as lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans.
  • Labels are not for everyone and we do not expect people to categorise themselves! Go to No Letter? No Label? No Problem! for more information.

Why should I join?

  • To meet other people who define themselves as LGBT.
  • To explore the social side of the LGBT community.
  • To get your views heard.

Do I need to be a member of the Guild of Societies?

  • No - you can still be part of the Society without paying to be a member of the Guild.
  • This is because we're classed as a "Welfare Amenity" - a group that provides a service to its members in terms of both representation and welfare.
  • We do not pass on any details about our members to the Guild or the Union due to our Statement of Confidentiality.
