Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I get into Rubix?

A. You need your campus card and some cash.

Q. I am a Surrey student but under 18 can I come to Rubix events?

A. Unfortunately, after 9pm everyone needs be to over 18 to gain entry.

Q. I've lost my campus card and I want to go to the Union. What do I do?

A. Unfortunately you need to get a new one. They are available from the Library. The doorstaff can only let you in if you have a campus card. Only the duty manager can overide this and you'd need proof of age. (Campus room keys don't work).

Q. Can I bring a friend to Union events?

A. You can bring a guest to most events the Union holds. At Rubix, all guests must bring appropriate I.D (passport or driving licence) to prove they are over 18.

Q. Does my friend need to get a ticket in advance?

A. On Wednesday and Friday nights, you are allowed to bring one guest to Rubix with you. You must by a ticket in advance from the shop. 100 are available. None are available on the door. Any other night of the week you may sign in two guests. Guest tickets are available on the door until midnight. (Certain events this is reduced to one guest).

Q. My friend has an NUS Card, do I need to get them a ticket?

A. No. Your friend can get a ticket just like a Surrey student.

Q. My friend is under 18 can I bring them in?

A. The answer is no. The Unions licence doesn't allow under 18's in an area that serves alcohol after 9pm. Some live band events are 14+ (with parent or guardian), in these cases alcohol sales and consumption are restricted to one area of the building.

Q. Someone else used my campus card to gain entry and you've banned me. Why?

A. You campus card is as important at Surrey as your passport. Someone has tried to use your campus card to 'cheat' their way in to Rubix. And you gave it to them. If you lose your campus card email the library/security immediately. Then you've got proof you lost it before someone else used it. We'll say sorry and let you back in.

Q. Why can't I bring my own alcohol into Rubix or Chancellors to drink?

A. Would you do that at your local pub? We think not. Also we have to regulate the sale and consumption of alcohol in the premises and if you've brought your own in we can't do that. Plus, if you fall over we don't want to have to clean up.
