The Students’ Union is proud to be recognized as an Investor in People, having held this accreditation since 2003. In order to provide opportunities for students we employ a large team of part time student staff and invest in helping them through skills and personal development in order to make a real difference to the student experience and meet our strategic targets. We also won the 2011 BIIAB Award for Best Licensee Induction Programme (non-Managed Estates).
The job opportunities in the Students' Union give students a fantastic opportunity to develop their skills in a professional, fast paced and fun environment providing a first class service to our members.
We employ students to work in our bars, nightclub, shop, food outlets and venue. Recruitment takes place twice a year – May and October. The recruitment events involve assessment exercises and interviews. Competition is high for our part time jobs, as demand far exceeds the number of jobs available – previous work experience is not essential but we look for skills that could have been obtained such as volunteering or sporting achievements. Details of our recruitment dates are advertised on our website and via Facebook. Candidates can sign up on line to attend advertised sessions.
If successfully recruited new team members are given induction training and will be required to pass their eight week induction in order to continue working. Part time staff can work up to 20 hours per week. Team members are initially paid the National Minimum Wage (currently £6.19 per hour and rising to £6.31 per hour from 1st October 2013. Staff have the opportunity to attend BIIAB accredited in house training courses and are also given the opportunity to apply for supervisory or House Officer roles at a higher hourly rate.
The Students’ Union is a great place to work, providing you with an income, training and development skills and also the opportunity to become part of a great team of people who are passionate about the organisation and the services it provides.
